Making the Decision to Donate: Bethel Foundation

by Amanda in Blessing Others,Intentional Living| Post a comment

Hubby never wanted a cat. In fact, I’m not even sure hubby will ever even want a pet… However, when Pierre showed up in our yard and obviously didn’t have a home, hubby responded to the persistent pleas of wife and kids by consenting to let us keep him.

We loved Pierre…even hubby stopped quite often to pet or play with him. The kids and I grew quite attached but unfortunately it didn’t work out. Hubby just isn’t cat owner material. So I put an ad on freecycle.com and Pierre is now at home with Gail and her two daughters.

What does this have to do with donating you ask?

Well, I think God placed Pierre in our lives for a very different reason than having a pet. You see, Gail is the Community Center Coordinator for Bethel Foundation. Through Pierre, Gail and I met, and I was connected with Bethel Foundation.

The Bethel Foundation’s mission is to help build stronger families by making single mothers more productive citizens. You all know the soft spot I have for single moms. So it has been my pleasure to get to know them and help with  some of their needs.

Lynda Powell was inspired to develop Bethel Foundation by her own experiences as a struggling single mother. She helps accomplish Bethel’s mission by alleviating single mothers’ dependence on systems that inhibit their ability to take steps to provide a better life for their kids.

The children of the women Bethel assists, have a better chance of growing up and making their way in the world without relying on welfare. Lynda’s belief, “STRONG FAMILIES MAKE A STRONG AMERICA! CHANGING LIVES, ONE MOM AT A TIME!” has shaped the way Bethel has grown.

How does the foundation help single mothers?

  • Home Ownership Program – Requires Application & Interview Process
  • Grace Scholarship Fund – Gap Fund when you have exhausted other financial avenues
  • Resume Building – By Appointment
  • Cooking Classes – Twice a month
  • Spring Educational Conferences – Different Topics and Theme Each Year
  • Community Center  – Provides FREE Quality Clothes, as well as food & hygiene items
  • Food Bank Approved Agency – Emergency provisions

Every single mother that completes the life skills mentoring and couseling program is given the option of purchasing the very home they stayed in while the Bethel Foundation helped them get on their feet.

Bethel’s goal is to let every mother that comes to them realize that she is special and worthy so they work hard to provide homes, support,  spiritual mentoring and direction to help guide women to become self-sufficient. They provide hope and with hope, the mothers acquire faith and with faith, love for others more than self.

If you feel led to help Bethel Foundation with their mission, here’s how you can. They can always use food, household and personal hygiene items in their Community Center Store, so consider donating some of those FREE and super cheap deals.
