CouponsToTroops

Coupons are an amazing tool – they can help us save money for our own households’ needs, but they can also allow us the opportunity to help others, in many ways. Even expired coupons can be a great way for us to help others, specifically helping US military families who are stationed overseas. Those families can use manufacturer coupons, up to 6 months past their expiration date, at the Commissary (like our grocery stores) and the Exchange (like our Wal-mart or Target) on base. But since coupons are not distributed overseas in Sunday newspapers like they are here, access to them is extremely limited. CouponsToTroops has made it their mission to give those families a helping hand.
CouponsToTroops maintains a list of military families, stationed in countries around the world (including Bahrain, Cuba, Germany, Guam, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Portugal, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom) who are interested in receiving coupons. Anyone wishing to show their support can sign up to adopt a military family and CouponsToTroops will put you in touch with one of their families so you send off your coupons as they expire. (You can even include current coupons that you know you won’t be using.) Then you mail off at your convenience, once a week, once a month, once every other month, whatever works for you.
It’s a very easy, yet much appreciated way to show your support to a US military family, who sacrifices so much for us every single day. It’s easy because you are not required to sort the coupons into categories. You are not required to report in with the number or value of the coupons that you’ve sent and if you’re squeezed for time you can even send the whole inserts, unclipped. All of the military families appreciate the time, effort and generosity put forth by their adopters and they all share their extra coupons with other families on base, so even though you’d only be mailing to one family, your coupons can benefit so many others!
Mailing is affordable, as mailing to an APO/FPO military address or to Guam or Puerto Rico, domestic postal rates apply, so there’s no concern about having to pay the more expensive international rates. Your postage to send overseas will be the same as if you were mailing within the continental United States. For anyone with a substantial amount of coupons, the United States Postal Service offers a wide variety of Priority-Mail Flat-Rate mailers and boxes (available at no charge) that can help you budget the postage. The postage for the “If It Fits, It Ships” mailers and boxes ranges from $5.15 to $15.45 but you can fit A LOT of coupons in them.
